Good and evil death

Writer: Ioanna Balafa

According to the ancient greek history and mythology, the “good death” is related to the heroes who were sacrificed for their country, the bad/evil ormiserable death” concerns the enemy who will remain unburied until the vultures mangle him. Nowadays, the death migrants is concerned as random, caused by negligence, the death of Europeans is concerned as a consequence of the global economic crisis, as a symptom of a bad era and the death of Greeks is concerned from the Greeks themselves as "heroic" as it hides some organized plan of extermination of the country that still chews the lights of civilization thinking they generously gave to humanity centuries ago. And there they stopped thinking they pay their human “debt”.

The human discrimination continues to successfully exist till today. Some Greeks do not hesitate to split up in two the even more universal condition, the natural death. And finally to get confused as the breakdown of social structures supposed to be for the citizen’s good while death is considered as the ultimate sacrifice because it contains political’s power terms  and on the contrary the death for ideals such as , the end of injustice and the conquer of personal freedom are considered as the death of the wicked, the suspect and the reprehensible. And all these can be reversed depending on public interest. Death, however, always carries the same absurdity when it serves economical powers, when taking advantage of the weak defines one of the most profitable industries.

Migrants’ deaths are not random events but the dramatic consequence of a bleeding global system which succeeds by everybody’s tolerance to cause a dramatic pain in all those who are trying to save this dying system paying it by the irreparable destruction of their mental health if they succeed to stay alive. And Europeans are still concerned about their household, looking for temporal “calming” solutions, convinced at the same time that nationalist callings or war and poverty always occur for others and never for them. Even now during one of the greatest economic crisis, the aforementioned "housekeepers" continue to build fortresses and prisons, for serving the illusion of protection from an imaginary enemy.

At the same time, the message sent from the greek police is clear. To expect more deaths of immigrants which will be considered as a bad moment, as bad luck forgetting that an immigrant is not a "kind" of man or an entertaining utensil for some to exorcise their fears and personal frustrations. Ok then, let’s kill people, by the financial crisis as the alibi for the human social indifference.

At a time that truth is more easily accessible than ever, the voices in Europe calling for the immediate implementation of a decent policy on immigration and asylum get stronger, as there is nothing more real than human rights.

If immigrants are "the earth’s wretched ", then the minimum of the hell they experience should all those hiding behind costumes and titles that they themselves don’t know exactly what they represent, experience.  Never again another  immigrant’s torture or death,  if we want to call ourselves humans who are here to fight together with other human beings in order to stop the land and water passages of survival from remain bleeded, hypocritically concealed behind the myths of good and evil .
